Yukon Seniors Income Supplement (YSIS)

The Yukon Seniors Income Supplement provides an income supplement of up to $247.53 monthly to low income seniors 65 years and over who are also receiving the federal old age security (OAS) and guaranteed income supplement (GIS).

This supplement is also provided to spouses (60-65 years of age) who are in receipt of the Spouses Allowance or Widowed Spouses Allowance. Individuals who are eligible for this program will automatically qualify when they apply for the federal pensions.

To be eligible for the YSIS, an individual must:

  • make his or her home in the Yukon;
  • ordinarily be present in the Yukon, and
  • receive the spouse's allowance or the income supplement in the Yukon and not elsewhere.

If you are eligible for the Federal Guaranteed Income Supplement Program, you may be eligible for the YSIS depending on your total income. If eligible, you will not be required to apply. Seniors do have to apply for the GIS, one time only, and then they can re-apply automatically, each year, for the GIS by filing their income tax return.
