Summer 2018

Deficiency rectification, some cladding, landscaping, furniture, fixture and equipment set up in summer 2018

  • Landscaping work will continue throughout the summer.
  • Continuing Care will start to move in furniture and equipment this summer.
  • Information systems will be set up and tested over the summer.

Spring 2018

Substantial Completion in Spring 2018

January 31, 2018

  • The project is currently 85% complete.
  • Testing of all systems started a couple months ago and continues.
  • The First Nation Healing room is receiving finishing touches, the fire pit construction in this room is underway, windows have just been completed.
  • Construction and finishing of resident rooms takes place in phases. Some rooms are complete now and some rooms are still in various stages of construction.
  • The main electrical mechanical room equipment is all in place.
  • Exterior siding is underway - when weather permits, this work will continue likely into the summer.

Yukon government signs agreement for new continuing care facility

A final design-build construction agreement has been reached between the Yukon government and PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. for the delivery of the 150-bed Whistle Bend continuing care facility.

Early 2016

Business-to-Business Networking event with preferred proponent

After the design-build contract is awarded in early 2016, a second B2B event will be held to connect local industry with the preferred proponent.

Site announced

The new continuing care facility, planned to open in 2018, will be built in Whistle Bend. The announcement was made by the former Minister of Health and Social Services Doug Graham.

Shortlisting of three design-build proponent teams

Three qualified teams were shortlisted to proceed to the next stage in the competitive selection process to design and build a 150-bed continuing care facility in Whitehorse.
Six design-build teams responded to the Whistle Bend Continuing Care project Request for Qualifications, which closed on May 6. The responses were evaluated, and three qualified teams have been invited to move forward to the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage. The three shortlisted teams were:

  • Lark Group 
  • PCL Construction
  • Sage Healthcare Partners (Bird/Clark Joint Venture)

March 11, 2015

Request for Qualifications (RFQ) released

The new Whistle Bend Continuing Care facility took an important step forward on March 11, 2015 with the release of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to design and build the facility in Whistle Bend. The RFQ was the first step in the competitive selection process to select a qualified design-build team.  The RFQ phase concluded on May 6, 2015.
