Active TB means the TB germ in the body has become active and is causing TB disease.
People with both TB and HIV infection have a much greater chance of developing TB disease. You may or may not feel sick, but when you have active TB germs in your body, you may be contagious to those around you.

In 2011, Yukon had 4 cases of TB disease and many more contacts with latent TB infection. We encourage those infected with TB, whether latent or active, to take steps to protect their family and friends by accepting the treatment offered to them. Successful preventative treatment of even one high risk person can lessen the threat of TB for hundreds of people in a community.
If you require additional information about TB, please contact Yukon Communicable Disease and ask to be redirected to one of the Tb Nurses.
