Adult Services provides a comprehensive range of social services and coordinates the development of these services for persons with disabilities, seniors, and the poor so they can achieve the greatest degree of independence, well-being and self-reliance possible. Services include:
Assessment of individual needs including supports required for employment, independent living, financial assistance and residential services.
Case Management provides overall coordination, monitoring and follow-up to people receiving services from the Adult Services Unit.
Social Assistance offers income assistance, information, counselling and supportive outreach services to enable access to employment and learning. There are supplementary benefits and rehabilitation allowances available to eligible persons with disabilities to enhance employability. The Territorial Supplementary Allowance is provided to eligible clients with disabilities who are unable to work.
Yukon Senior's Income Supplement is provided up to a maximum amount for low income seniors who are in receipt of federal Old-Age Security, and Guaranteed Income Supplement, and for spouses (aged 60-65) who are in receipt of Spouse's Allowance, or Widowed Spouse's Allowance. A Pioneer Utility Grant is also available to seniors living in their own homes to offset the costs of utilities.

Employment and Training Services assists eligible adults to pursue and secure gainful employment through vocational training, restorative services, employment placement and follow-up. Individuals are referred to appropriate services. Services may be contracted out to a variety of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide job readiness and training, as well as other employment and training programs for people with disabilities. Pathways, a program administered through an NGO, provides wage subsidies for employers to support the hiring of people with disabilities.)
Inclusion Supports includes:
- Supported Independent Living (SIL) program provides support to individuals to enable them to live independently in the community. Telephone: (867) 667-5670
- Day programs are offered to individuals who are not ready or able to participate in employment.
- Disability supports are provided to individuals who can not obtain other funding for aids and devices required for daily living.
- Respite care is offered to families who care for a disabled member in their family home.
Residential Services for Adults with Disabilities

Supports individuals to remain in a comfortable and familiar environment at home while remaining as independent as possible. Services include:
- Home support
- Home nursing

Continuing Care provides facility-based care and community-based programs. Facility-based care provides services to individuals of any age, including children and seniors. Low to very high level care is provided through:

- McDonald Lodge (Dawson City)
Community-based programs are coordinated and integrated by continuing care in order to address the challenge of equitable access and use. These programs include:
- Outreach
- Day program
- Meals on wheels
- Respite services
- Assessment and stabilization
- Outpatient therapy services (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Pathology)
Family and Children's Services
Family and Children's Services branch provides a wide range of services in the area of investigation, assessment, support, counselling, treatment and placement for children and their families. The branch also provides youth justice services. The services offered by the branch include child welfare services, placement and support services, family support program, healthy family program, a respite care program, child care (day care) services, child abuse treatment services, and a residential treatment program. The branch also provides residential placements for adults with disabilities.

Respite Care
A respite care program is offered to families with children with a disability. Caregivers may receive funding to pay for their own respite care, or they may use an approved home recruited by Family and Children's Services.
Child Care
Provides support for children in licensed day care and family day homes. The Supported Child Care Fund allows children with special needs to participate in day care settings. The fund can be applied to cover any expense related to ensuring participation, and can include wages for a special assistant or equipment.
Subsidies are offered to eligible individuals to cover child care costs. An additional $50 per month is available for eligible pre-school children with disabilities. An additional $250 per month is available for child care costs of eligible school age children with disabilities up to a maximum of $500 per month. (Telephone: (867) 667-3492)
Residential Treatment
This treatment program is provided to young persons with behavioural difficulties. Youth who are not able to reside in their home or community because of an inability to function in school, social or home environments are referred through social services. The program provides:
- Treatment in residence in Whitehorse.
- Individual treatment plans which direct therapeutic interventions. Programming is variable based on the individual strengths and needs of the youth.
- Programming to address daily living issues such as social, recreational, educational and cultural needs, life skills and family issues.
