The office of the Yukon’s Medical Officer of Health is responsible for the Department of Health and Social Services’ legislated responsibility to protect and promote the public’s health in a variety of areas including:

Communicable disease control
Environmental health
Emergency preparedness and response

In addition, the Medical Officer of Health works in collaboration with numerous federal and provincial/territorial representatives on a number of national and international issues, including immunization, pandemic influenza preparedness, HIV/AIDS and hepatitis awareness and West Nile virus.
