Foster Care Reimbursement

There is a child-in-care, non-taxable, daily rate issued monthly to foster parents for the number of days a child was in a foster home to help cover cost of the child’s living expenses. There is also a bi-annual child-in-care clothing and school allowance paid to the foster parent for the child or youth’s use. The child’s medical and dental and optical expenses, including prescriptions are covered by Family and Children’s Services.

Starting in October 2010 the daily rate will be indexed to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Special Needs Children/Youth

If a child is in-care for more than 30 days the Foster care worker, Child-in-care worker and foster parents will develop a special rate agreement which will cover additional expenses due to the specific needs of the child/youth.
