Palliative Care Program
Palliative care is a type of care offered to a person who is dying. It seeks to ease patients’ suffering and
improve their quality of living and dying. It addresses the physical, social and spiritual needs of the patient,
as well as those of the family. It helps them deal with practical issues, and cope with loss and grief
throughout the illness and bereavement.
The Palliative Care program provides consulting services, public and professional education, and
training and support to volunteers in communities. The Palliative Care team, which includes a volunteer
coordinator, Registered Nurse and social worker, is available for clinical consultation on request.
Who can be referred?
Individuals living with a life-limiting illness who wish to improve or maintain their quality of life. Families
can also be referred.
