Assistance with developing Community Prevention Programs
Prevention Consultants at Prevention Services are available to assist resource workers in communities who wish to develop a substance abuse prevention program. Whether it’s to brainstorm ideas or to develop an agenda, a Prevention Consultant can help put together a program outline that is designed for a specific group. Prevention Consultants can also assist in finding resources and, with adequate notice, can deliver some of the addiction education components in a program.
Training in Community
The Prevention Consultant assigned to a given community (see previous table) is available on an as-requested, as-available basis to work with resource workers to design and deliver addiction related training to meet the learning needs of resource workers or allied professionals in the community. Some examples of community-based training are:
- Pre-treatment and Aftercare: Working with clients before and after addictions treatment
- Providing Alcohol and Drug Awareness and Education to Youth: a “Train the Trainers” workshop
- Effective Interventions for working with Pregnant Women who Use Alcohol and Drugs
- Drugs and How They Work
- Developing Community-Based Prevention Programs
