Family Physician Incentive Program
The purpose of practice entry grants is to provide financial support in the repayment of student loans for recently graduated physicians in order to attract and retain them in the practice of family medicine in Yukon.
Policy:
Financial support to a maximum of $50,000 will be made available to an individual family physician that meets the eligibility criteria on the following basis:
- 40% provided at time of entry to practice
- 40% provided at end of 2nd year
- 20% provided at end of 4th year
If a medical practitioner leaves family practice in the Yukon before practicing for 5 years in the Yukon, the amount of the grant will be recovered on a prorated basis. Eg. If a physician leaves after 1 year, they would owe $10,000.
A maximum of 4 practice entry grants/year will be provided in 2006. The number of entry grants provided per year will be evaluated and adjusted according to need.
Eligibility:
- Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- Fully licensable in Canada
- Completion of the Certificate of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
- Graduated from a school of medicine within the last 5 years
- Available only to people establishing Family Medicine practice in Yukon, including provision of referral and follow-up medical services.
- Has been granted post-probationary hospital privileges at Whitehorse General Hospital, including Emergency Room privileges.
