You are eligible to receive the Pioneer Utility Grant each year if you:
- are or will be 65 years old on December 31 of the year of the grant; AND
- have (or your spouse living with you has) owned or rented the principal residence for the year of the grant; AND
- have occupied your principal residence for a period of not less than 183 days, 90 of which occurred during the winter months (January, February, March, October, November, December).
Or
- are the surviving spouse of person who would have qualified under section 1 above; AND
- are or will be 55 years old on December 31 of the year of the grant.
You are not eligible to receive the Pioneer Utility Grant if you:
- do not meet the above criteria; OR
- are receiving or have received any rent or housing subsidy; OR
- are subsidized by or benefit from any ongoing program of the Government of Canada or the Government of Yukon which provides for reduced cost of shelter or occupancy, other than
- a grant pursuant to the Home Owners Grant Act.
- any benefits or utility equalization programs.
- a program administered by a municipality, or
- any program listed in the regulations
- do not make your applications within the required time limit of January 31, 2011
