Pioneer Utility Grant

Pioneer Utility Grant applications can be submitted between October 1st to January 31st. This grant provides financial assistance with home heating costs to Yukon seniors over the age of 65 years.

The Pioneer Utility Grant application is not available online.  Please call 667-5137 and ask to have an application sent to you.

The Pioneer Utility Grant is available to Yukon seniors who are 65 years of age or older, to assist with the cost of heating owned or rented accommodation.
 

Q&A

Q: Do I need to apply for the grant every year even if my information has not changed?
A: Yes, situations can change from one year to the next for applicants and the department may not be aware of these changes.

Q: Do I need to provide back up with my application?
A: Yes, you must provide proof of residency with your application. We will accept a copy of your property tax assessment, a city utility bill or a letter from your land lord stating you are paying market rent. We will not accept power bills, home heatil fuel bills, phone bills or cable bills as back-up. Please note that seniors living in subsidized housing do not qualify for this grant.

Q: What if I spend my winter months outside of the territory? Do I still qualify?
A: You need to be resident in Yukon for at least 183 days, of which 90 must be in October, November, December, January, or February. If you are gone throughout the winter months, you are not eligible for the grant. Please see eligibility criteria for more details.

Q: What if I was residing in the Yukon between the months of eligibility and moved before October 1st to another province?
A: You need to be a Yukon resident, living in the Yukon to qualify for this grant.
