Pioneer Utility Grant (PUG)

The Pioneer Utility Grant (PUG) assists Yukon seniors with the cost of heating their homes (whether they own or rent). To be eligible, seniors must be at least 65 years old and have lived in Yukon at least six months this year (three of which have to have been winter months). Applications can be submitted starting JULY 1, 2017.

Application Package

If you received the Pioneer Utility Grant last year, your 2017 application package will be mailed to you at the end of June.

IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU INFORM THE PUG PROGRAM IF YOUR ADDRESS CHANGES.

2017 packages will also be available starting July 1, 2017 at the following locations:

New applicants / report changes

If you are just turning 65 or have never received the grant, or if you want to report a change in address, please call the PUG helpline which can be found in the contact information section below.

Maximum payable base rate

The 2017 maximum grant payable (before income testing) is $1,059 if you live within Whitehorse city limits, and $1,143 if you live outside Whitehorse city limits.  As the PUG is based on income, marital status and residential address, everyone’s grant amount will be different.

We require a copy of your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment to determine your income. Seniors with low income will receive the full grant, while those with higher income will receive less or may not be eligible (see graph).

If you are a landlord, a Certificate of Tenancy must be completed by you and submitted by the senior with the application.
