Child Abuse - Physical Abuse
Physical Abuse is defined as a deliberate, non-accidental assault or use of force against a child that results in physical harm.
Types of force include;
- slapping,
- hitting,
- punching,
- shaking,
- choking,
- kicking, and
- burning.
It could be the result of excessive or inappropriate discipline and could include;
- bruises,
- burns,
- welts,
- broken bones,
- greenbreak fractures,
- bite marks, or
- scars.

Child and Family Services Act
The new Child and Family Services Act (Children's Act)was passed in the Yukon Legislature on April 22, 2008. It came into force on Friday, April 30, 2010.
Highlights of the new Act include:
- supporting families and extended families to care for their children;
- introduction of the requirement for all Yukon residents to report suspected child abuse;
- changes to the disclosure of adoption records; and
- collaborative planning processes such as family conferencing, to involve family groups in decision making for their children.
