Government of Yukon Puts $51,515 into Community Youth Projects

WHITEHORSE – Young Yukon boarders, swimmers and campers are some of the youth who will benefit from the $51,515 being spent on 17 projects supported by the Youth Investment Fund.
The projects cover the breadth of Yukon and a wide variety of youth activities including various youth camps, physical activities and cultural events.
The successful projects were announced today by the ministers of the fund's sponsoring departments: Premier Dennis Fentie, minister responsible for the Youth Directorate; Education Minister Patrick Rouble; Health and Social Services Minister Brad Cathers; Women’s Directorate Minister Elaine Taylor; Justice
Minister Marian C. Horne and Community Services Minister Glenn Hart.
The Youth Investment Fund supports community-driven initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of Yukon youth. Many of the projects are designed to help youth susceptible to “at risk” behaviours or those who are considered to be “at risk.”
Since the fund's inception in 1995, 437 projects have been funded. The next deadline for applications is October 1, 2008.
