Nursing Students Round Out Bursary Awards in 2007/08

For Release #07-197
September 20, 2007

WHITEHORSE – Health and Social Services Minister Brad Cathers today announced the names of the Yukon students who have been granted education bursaries this year under the government’s Nursing Education Bursary Program.

Four new nursing students have joined the roster of bursary recipients. Santana Laird and Melissa Brown are both in the third of a four-year nursing program at Mount Royal College; Kate Bradshaw is also in the third year of a four-year program at the University of Ottawa; and Jodeen Conners is entering her first year at the University of British Columbia. A total of 11 nursing students are currently being supported through the bursary program.

"We are fortunate that so many of our young people are interested in the nursing profession," Cathers said. "I am pleased we can help support our own in pursuing their education and help to build a strong health care network."

The government provides three different health education bursary programs under its Health Human Resources Strategy which was launched last year. In addition to the Nursing Education Bursary Program, there is a Medical Education Bursary Program and a Health Professions Education Bursary.
