Attending Post Secondary Institutions in Canada
No matter where in Canada you attend school, you will be covered 100 per cent by Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan for insured hospital and physician services if you advise YHCIP offices that you will be out of the territory attending school.
If you see a doctor or are hospitalized, your bills will be sent directly to Yukon for payment under reciprocal billing agreements. The exception to this is Quebec. If you attend school in Quebec, doctors and hospitals may want payment at the time service is provided. Submit your receipts to Insured Health Services for reimbursement.
You are responsible for any service or treatment not covered by Yukon Health Care Insurance. You need to know that YHCIP does not cover ground ambulance or air ambulance outside of the Yukon. If you require this service, you will be billed for them.
Attending Post Secondary Institutions Outside of Canada
Outside of Canada, your coverage is limited to the maximum amount that would have been paid for the same services in the Yukon. You will probably be required to pay at the time you receive the service and will then be reimbursed once you submit the receipts to YHCIP. You are resposible for any costs over the Yukon rate as well as for any services not covered under YHCIP.
