FASD Symposium

September 28, 29, 2010 Whitehorse, Yukon

Join us for an opportunity to learn more about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), successes and directions for the future. About 150 people will gather to share knowledge, practice, research and ideas for moving forward with this information. Be part of this important learning and discussion.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is an umbrella term used to describe the range of disabilities caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol. The damage caused by alcohol exposure is permanent and individuals can experience physical, mental, behavioural and/or learning disabilities. While there are no conclusive statistics on the number of people with FASD, Health Canada estimates that approximately 9 in every 1000 infants are affected by FASD. Prenatal exposure to alcohol is a leading cause of preventable birth defects.

The symposium will focus on ways to prevent FASD and support those affected by FASD. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, discuss, celebrate and discover new ideas to try.
