Resident Psychiatrist
Whitehorse is a vibrant city located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, rivers and lakes. It attracts bright, educated and independent people who want a lifestyle which balances professional, personal and family opportunities and interests.
The population of 32,000 is served by 60 family practitioners and specialists in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesia, pediatrics and one psychiatrist. As well, a variety of visiting specialists provide services throughout the year, including child and geriatric psychiatrists. Community mental heath services are provided by a team of professional clinical counsellors, mental health nurses, and supported independent living workers.
Yukon is looking for a second resident psychiatrist who will complement this team by providing leadership on in-patient and outpatient care and consultation to family practitioners and community mental health professionals. Experience with concurrent disorders is considered an asset. An interest in working with young people and older people would also be an asset.
Remuneration can be either a combination of sessionals and fee for service or by contract. Yukon’s fee schedule is generous and residents of the North enjoy significant tax incentives. Benefits include a recruitment and retention package, CME funding, full coverage of Medical Practice Insurance, Resident Support Program, Physician Relocation Fund, Educational Support Program and a Locum Support Program.
We are about a 2 hour and 30 minute flight away from Vancouver. Flights are also available directly to Calgary and Edmonton. This service is provided by two major airlines, Air North and Air Canada, with flights available on a daily basis.
