CASY

Congenital Anomalies Surveillance Yukon (CASY) is a tool to evaluate rates and trends of congenital anomalies as well as risk factors associated with their occurrence and helps with developing programs and services to help lower the rate of Yukon babies born with a congenital anomaly.

Communicable Disease Control >> Yukon Communicable Disease Control

Yukon Communicable Disease Control (YCDC), in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada, is responsible for the prevention, monitoring, and control of all communicable diseases (both vaccine and non-vaccine preventable) throughout the Yukon.

All Yukoners have a responsibility to ensure the protection of children from abuse.

Care Facilities

There are five continuing care facilities in the Yukon. Birch Lodge, Copper Ridge Place, Thomson Centre and Macaulay Lodge are located in Whitehorse and McDonald Lodge provides care services in Dawson City.

Care Facilities - Environmental Health

Environmental Health Officers play a role in the prevention of infections and injury in child care facilities by conducting inspections and providing guidance and education to child care operators and staff to ensure a healthy and safe environment.

Child & Adolescent Therapeutic Services

Child & Adolescent Therapeutic Services (CATS) provides confidential counselling services to children, youth, and their families who have experienced child maltreatment.

Child Care Board

The Yukon Child Care Board is an advisory body that makes recommendations to the Minister of Health and Social Services, on any issues that pertain to child care.

Child care services

Ensures quality, accessible and comprehensive childcare services for Yukon children and families. Some services include: childcare subsidies; direct operating grants to licensed child facilities. Callers should be directed to the number listed for detailed programming descriptions.

Child care subsidy

The Child Care Subsidy Program assists families who need child care for their children and may not be able to afford the cost of child care.

Child placement services

Promotes, coordinates and provides assessment and placements for children and counseling treatment and support to children and their caregivers in order to ensure the healthy development of children and to enhance the functioning of the caregiver family. Services offered are adoption services, child abuse treatment services, services to children in care, foster care services, custody, and access.

Child protection

Provides child protection services: investigation and assessment of suspected child abuse/neglect; prevention and support services; counseling and/or treatment services. Callers should be directed to the number listed for detailed programming descriptions.

Children in care and custody - services

This unit provides a variety of services to meet the needs of children in temporary or permanent care.

Children's School-based Dental Program

The Yukon Children's Dental Program is a school-based public dental health program that provides diagnostic, preventative and restorative dental services to Yukon children. Dental therapists provide dental services to both urban and rural communities.

Children's drug & optical program

The Children's Drug and Optical Program is designed to assist low income families with the cost of prescription drugs and eye care for children under the age of 19.

Children's health fairs

In May each year, the Whitehorse Health Centre hosts a Pre-kindergarten Health Fair.

Children’s Dental Program

Yukon Children's Dental Program provides services to Yukon children, from newborn to Grade 8 or Grade 12, depending on the child's place of residence. Yukon Dental Health Services provides diagnostic, preventative and restorative dental services.

Good child care promotes a child’s full development through a happy and safe environment, nutritious food and lots of opportunities for active learning and play with a culturally appropriate program.

Chronic conditions support program

The Chronic Conditions Support Program (CCSP) provides collaborative chronic care and self-management support to Yukoners living with a chronic condition.

Chronic disease program

The Chronic Disease and Disability Benefits Program provides benefits for Yukon residents who have a chronic disease or a serious functional disability.

ColonCheck Yukon

Yukoners, ages 50-74 are encourage to get screened for colon cancer even if they don’t have symptoms.
